DVB-H für neuere WLAN-Handys

iphone reblogged meldet (und andere), dass die kalifornische Firma PacketVideo in Barcelona am Mobile World Congress ein Kistchen vorgestellt hat, das DVB-H Signale (sowie andere Standards) empfängt und via WLAN an entsprechend ausgerüstete Handys (und andere Geräte) streamt:

The mobile broadcast receiver will be available in versions for all major mobile broadcast standards, including TDtv, DVB-H and MediaFLO as well as for WiMAX. The device can also be customized with the operator’s badge or branding for the retail market. The mobile broadcast receiver is compatible with many industry-leading phones including the Nokia N-series, Apple iPhone and HTC Smartphone devices.

Eine clevere Idee! Damit wird das Publikum für DVB-H bestenfalls (wenn das Kistchen vernünftig wenig kostet) deutlich schneller wachsen können, als wenn für den Empfang ein neues Handy angeschafft werden müsste. Im Prinzip... Jetzt ist nur noch die Frage, über welche Kanäle der Umsetzer wann auf den Markt kommt. Siehe dazu auch techradar.
